This should probably be common sense, but I discovered it first hand more or less by accident when I picked up a brick that had been sitting in the sun. It was very hot to the touch -- hotter than the outside temperature -- too hot to hold comfortably. It had absorbed the heat from the sun.
These photos show two thermometers. As you can see, when they are side by side in the shade they both show approximately the same temperature -- slightly above 100°F.
But place one of them in a brick sandwich, and in a short time it's showing around 130°F. Ouch!
