Apparently, they bid online without checking the deed records for the property. In this case there was a prior lien on the property, and if that lien holder foreclosed, the buyer there could take the property away from the buyer at the previous auction.
If you read the linked article you'll see that there's a lawsuit threatened, and we can't predict how that would turn out. Nevertheless, this is a cautionary tale for all those would-be house flippers inspired by the TV shows. A safer bet might be to stick with the cooking shows.
