Donald Trump hit on a nerve when he said he would drain the Washington swamp. Fans were delighted to hear it, but the swamp dug in.
The latest outrageous act on behalf of the swamp was the leaking of classified conversations Trump had with leaders of Mexico and Australia. Transcripts were published by accomplices in the main stream media. Will the identity of the leaker be found out? Probably. Will he/she suffer any consequences. At least one writer speculates the leaker will be too big to fire. We'll see about that. Trump really likes the phrase, "You're fired."
Meanwhile, there's the federal bureaucracy. They hate Trump. They are entrenched. They are hard to fire.
Some hide in the weeds. But they are getting braver as the MSM takes up their cause. See Federal employees step up defiance of Trump:
Government employees are growing increasingly willing to criticize or defy the White House and President Trump’s top appointees. ...
The growing opposition in the executive branch comes as the White House’s legislative agenda has stalled in Congress and Trump turns to his Cabinet agencies to change course in several policy areas. It also is emanating from career staffers or political holdovers whose resistance to Trump has, at times, been rooted in deep opposition to the president’s agenda.
“From our point of view, it’s kind of obvious,” said Jeff Ruch, the executive director of the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) group, when asked about staffers’ growing pushback.
“You have Donald Trump, who ran and said he would drain the swamp, meaning them.”
He could have added that they are in the best jobs they could ever get. They are going to hold on for dear life.
