Well, this sucks. Top Dems call for ‘bipartisan consensus’ on Harvey aid, debt ceiling.
Top Democratic lawmakers are calling for a "bipartisan consensus" on key issues like Hurricane Harvey aid and the debt ceiling as the August recess comes to an end.
“Providing aid in the wake of Harvey and raising the debt ceiling are both important issues, and Democrats want to work to do both," Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a joint statement on Sunday.
"Given the interplay between all the issues Congress must tackle in September, Democrats and Republicans must discuss all the issues together and come up with a bipartisan consensus,” the statement continued.
That means they'll bog it down with pork like they did with the Sandy relief bill.
Does this mean they'll vote "no" like Ted Cruz did with the Sandy bill? If so, they won't win any Republican friends, but they didn't have any to begin with. But how about Democrats? Is their hatred for Republicans so wide spread and all absorbing that they can thumb their noses at Harvey victims?
Hopefully, Republicans can get it done without Schumer, Pilosi, and the other gang of obstructionists.
