The newsworthiness of the story is that he staged his suicide in the courtroom. (Dailymail.co.uk has a couple of articles about it: here and here.)
The tribunal is probably disappointing that he didn't serve his sentence -- opting for a self administered death penalty instead. But before getting upset about it, consider this. Maybe that should be an option in cases involving serious crimes.
When I was young we heard that Harakiri was a suicide ritual practiced among Japanese generals who were somehow disgraced. So maybe Praljak was guilty of cultural appropriation, too. In any event, perhaps we should welcome its comeback as a way to deal with really bad people.
