Beto O'Rouke is the current darling of the Democrats, although he contends that he doesn't want that. There's a puff piece about him in Politico. Link: Beto O’Rourke Doesn’t Want to Be Democrats’ Next National Cause. Maybe he doesn't, but it appears as if he's being groomed for a national cause just like they groomed the Castro brothers (the ones from San Antonio, not Cuba).
From the aforementioned Political article:
Among O’Rourke’s friends in Washington who let themselves believe, even for a second, that he might win, their brains start tap dancing to the next step. The vice presidential shortlist for sure, they say—maybe even president, if he can take Texas with him.
Dems in Texas love him. Prior to the recent Texas primaries a lady came to my door trying to pump up support for him. She heard him speak recently and was enthralled. She gave me a card, and the first thing I noticed was that he believed health care was a right. So right off the bat Mr. O'Rourke and I had different ideas on what government should do.
In any event, he probably can't beat Ted Cruz, but it will be interesting to see what happens next.
