Mr. Painter appeared on a panel televised on C-Span not long ago. Two things jumped out. First, he ripped into Donald Trump something fierce. And second, he's got this weird tic -- he talks out of the side of his mouth. (Thanks to Democrats, it's now OK to talk about a person's personal appearance.)
Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, he was identified as a former member of the George W. Bush administration.
So now we learn that he plans to run for office as a Democrat. Source: Make no mistake: Richard Painter is running for Senate, thanks to Trump. His target seat is the one that was occupied by Al Franken until recently.
He thinks the Citizens United case was a bad decision, thinks Trump has violated the emoluments clause, and generally detests Donald Trump the same way most Democrats do. He'll fit right in.
Should an impeachment case against Donald Trump ever reach the Senate, Painter, if elected, would probably be counted on to vote for conviction.
Republicans really do need to hold onto the House and Senate in 2018 and beyond.
