Local taxing entities plug a number into their annual budgets to account for an expected revenue from sales taxes. And they are always shocked, shocked, that too much money came in. If only all of us could get such surprises on such a regular basis.
The latest example comes to us by way of Stewart Doreen at MRT.com in County breaks record for sales tax collected in fiscal year.
The only problem the taxing entities have is deciding what to buy with all that money. They never give any thought to giving it back to the tax payers.
Fortunately at the Midland County level, the winner of the Republican Party runoff for County Judge, Terry Johnson, having been the one least favored by the establishment, is likely to win the position in November. Those of us on the paying side of the tax equation have high hopes for the future.
