The other day at a local outdoor shooting range there was a segment of a target board backing laying on the ground with a bullet fragment stuck in it.
insert three pics here
It appears to be a hollow point bullet jacket minus the lead. The lead must have either fallen out, presumably, after it struck the target backing. Anyway, there's no lesson here, it was just an interesting find, particularly since the jacked appears to have been turned inside out and it didn't penetrate the target backing.
Meanwhile, for a handy comparison of self defense rounds, see Luckygunner.com's review: Handgun Self-Defense Ammunition Ballistics Test.
P.S. They were smart to call the bullets "defense ammo." The anti-gun folks would probably call them "assault bullets" if they thought they could get away with it.
