Donald Trump himself admitted that he didn't know whether his own popularity among voters would do much to help Republicans running for House and Senate seats. He has been campaigning hard, nonetheless, so we are about to see.
Traditionally, the administration's party loses ground in the mid terms. And if Nate Silver's predictions at fivethirtyeight.com are right, Republicans will lose control of the House but keep the Senate. See lots of graphics at Forecasting the race for the House.
Elected Republicans have had plenty of time to anticipate this and attempt to pass anything they deemed necessary. They did pass the tax cut. And one has to suspect that that is all they expected to do during the Trump administration however long it lasts. All that is left is for them to make a feeble show of attempting to slow impeachment proceedings.
