Gordon Deal's radio program featured an interview with Patricia Murphy about the Beto O'Rourke campaign where she found an apt comparison, the Jon Ossoff campaign in Georgia.
Democrats think Beto looks like Kennedy and talks like Obama, so donors smothered him with money. The same thing happened to Jon Ossoff in his campaign in a special election in Georgia. "We saw this same movie very recently, and it might have the same kind of ending," Murphy said. More from Murphy:
You’d think that posting a gigantic fundraising number like the $38 million that O’Rourke reported for the third quarter last week would be nothing but good news for a candidate. But as Ossoff’s team learned the hard way, money in a campaign can begin to have diminishing returns. As the Georgia Democrat racked up more and more cash last year, he began to attract an equal barrage of Republican money in attack ads against him. The same is holding true in Texas, where GOP outside groups are significantly outspending Democrats.
There's also that pesky issue of numbers. It might be worthwhile to remember that 1 million votes were cast for Democrats in the primary this year, 1.5 million votes were cast in the Republican primary. The numbers are not in Democrats favor. Furthermore, it will interesting to see what the Trump rally for Cruz will do to the polls.
