This is one of those things that annoys conservatives -- corporate welfare. In the case of the farm bill, it's big agribusiness welfare.
Here's an interesting factoid that appeared at the Heritage Foundation website:

An astonishing 94% of farm program support goes to just six commodities. Corn, cotton, peanuts, rice, soybeans, and wheat. These commodities account for just 28% of total farm receipts—but these favored farms that produce them rake in billions through subsidy programs.

Here are some more from Cato:
About 97 percent of all farm households are wealthier than the median U.S. household.
Farm income was 52 percent higher than median U.S. household income.
Subsidies are slanted toward the largest farms.
It's unfortunate that among the many politicians who claim to want to reduce government spending there are too many who are willing to look the other way when it comes to wealth distribution through farm subsidies.
We've created a class of people dependent on the farm subsidies. But it's possible to wean them off. To see a country that did it, go to New Zealand.
