We're learning from news reports that both Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris support reparations for black Americans. The knee jerk reaction to that is that they are using Democrats' tactics of identity politics to pander to a voting bloc.
The problem for taxpayers, who comprise only *37% of the US population, is that all the burden falls on them whether they feel the need for absolution or not. Eloquent writers have provided plenty of reasons to oppose reparations. But let's accept for the moment that there would be some societal benefit to a system that provided absolution to the guilt ridden.

Michael Eric Dyson's Individual Reparations Account provides a solution. Make the payments into the account optional. That way those who feel the need can do it, and those who don't don't.
