Just finished reading a pretty good crime novel titled "August Snow," a first novel by Stephen Mack Jones. It's about a former Detroit cop with the same name as the book title. And the tale involves lots of conspiracies in high places along with some close-in combat with lots of gunfire. Fans of David Baldacci will feel right at home with this book.
Here's my issue, and it's relatively minor. In several instances the hero pulls out his Glock handgun and clicks off the manual safety. Huh? Glock handguns don't have manual safeties.
Gaston Glock, the man who developed the Glock brand intentionally omitted a manual safety because he was trying to mimic the ease of handling a revolver. And besides, it was too cumbersome. (I've written previously about that issue.)
A novelist can't know everything his readers know, but many novelists talk to lots of experts to avoid amateur mistakes. So hopefully Mr. Jones can learn from his mistakes and continue crafting good yarns.
