I recently read an enthralling book titled "The Spy and The Traitor" by Ben McIntyre which is the amazing story about KGB colonel Oleg Gordievsky who worked at the Soviet Embassy in Britain during the cold war and passed Soviet secrets to MI6.
Gordievsky brought to light information about a big league British Labour Party politician named Michael Foot. Turns out Foot was chummy with the Soviets who even had a code name for him: Agent Boot.
Agent Boot fed information to the Soviets and was paid well for it. But to be fair, he most likely didn't pass on any security secrets -- he didn't have access to British security secrets.
Back to the topic of this post, Bernie Sanders who, as it is well known, took his honeymoon in the Soviet Union. At the time, Sanders was mayor of Burlington, Vermont, and any information he may have had for the Soviets probably would not have advanced the Soviet goals very much. He may have been a mere useful idiot, to use Lenin's phrase.
In any event, the KGB was always trying to hook up with western politicians. And they probably had a file on Sanders. One has to wonder whether they gave him his own code name. Agent Beach, perhaps?
