I received a very pleasant email from an individual asking that I post a link to this website. It's about firearm sound suppressors, titled Silencer Guide with Decibel Level Testing. There's lots of background information about suppressors as well as testing results.
Here's a flavor: "That’s an average reduction of 34 dB when using a silencer with a 9mm firearm."
Silencers aren't cheap, but on a home defense weapon one would pay for itself with a single indoor shot.
