It's a well known secret that China is snooping on us. Just the other day we learned that Chinese hackers had pilfered metadata from cell phone networks in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Were they not hacking networks serving the U.S., or had those breaches just not yet been discovered or made public?
We go back a few years ago and recall the huge breach of the U.S. OPM data on thousands of current and retired federal workers. What became of that stolen private data?
At some point we need to reconcile the fact that the government of China has access to information on millions of U.S. citizens with China's new social credit system they are setting up for their own citizens. If they haven't done so already, they will surely be tempted to apply such a system to American citizens so they will know who is their friend, who is their foe, and who is persuadable.
