Gun law expert Dr. John R. Lott, Jr., is the founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center, and their website always contains some interesting information about the relationship between gun laws and gun related crimes. And this particular headline jumps out at the reader: Mexico’s murder rate is twice the US rate, but only about 1% of Mexicans are legally licensed to own a gun.
Simply put, if laws against gun ownership are intended to take guns out of the hands of outlaws and reduce crime, those laws don't make a heck of a lot of difference. Outlaws can get guns. The Odessa shooter was a good example. He wouldn't have been able to purchase a gun legally. But he obtained one anyway.
It's been long believed by gun owners that the gun control movement's ambition is less about safety than about control.
