The state of Texas has some new gun laws effective as of 9/1/2019. And while pundits are still exercised about the recent mass shootings, knee jerk reactions could easily be anticipated. Politico kindly clears the air by advising readers about those new laws in Hours after shooting rampage, Texas gun laws loosened. Here's a summary of Politico's summary of some of the new laws:
HB 1143 Prevents schools from regulating how guns and ammo are stored in vehicles on a school parking lot.
HB 1387 Removes limitations on the number of faculty and staff that can be designated as armed school marshals per campus.
SB 535 Churches must give notice if guns are banned on their premises.
HB 1177 Citizens who are not prohibited from having a gun can carry without a license for a week after a disaster declaration and shelters must accommodate them.
HB 302 Residential lease agreements can't restrict lawful possession of a firearm.
HB 2363 Guns in foster homes can be stored together with a trigger-locking devices.
HB 121 License to Carry holders can simply leave a property prohibiting guns if asked.
Many Democrats want more control over anyone who might own a gun, but they'll have to wait, at least in Texas.
