That proposed school bond was the biggest item on the November ballot. When the results were announced, it won by a hair. But then more votes were counted, and it lost by a hair. Then a box of uncounted votes turned up. Now no one knows who won.
It's a huge embarrassment for Midland, Texas, which typically only gets non-regional news coverage on energy industry developments.
The pro-bond camp say the school district needs new buildings. The anti-bond camp says taxpayers don't need another half billion dollars worth of debt hanging over their heads.
And right now, we don't know which side will prevail. If only those who insist on more and bigger government could pay attention to how it actually operates.
